Winner of the development competition launched by the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg in 2013, Frey is carrying out here the largest urban and commercial renewal operation ever launched in France.
Focus on the Development Operation of the Northern Commercial Zone
A sustainable development project certified HQE Aménagement®, the operation meets objectives of environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
Located across four municipalities of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg (Vendenheim, Mundolsheim, Lampertheim, and Reichstett), the Northern Commercial Zone is a typical example of French urban gateways: a development lacking coherence, built piecemeal since 1975 following the arrival of a CORA hypermarket.
As both developer and investor, Frey is responsible for the urban and commercial renewal of this vast 150‑hectare area. Its mission notably includes creating new public spaces (such as an access road from a motorway interchange and new soft‑mobility routes), upgrading existing public spaces, relocating certain stores to make way for housing or new public areas, and establishing guidelines for the entire perimeter.
- Area: 150 ha
- 6 km of redeveloped roads / 2 km of new roads
- 9 km of soft‑mobility routes created
- Development budget: €75 million
- Creation of 400 housing units
- New tertiary activities: 11,000 m²
- Urban Architect: AREP Ville – Denu & Paradon
- Landscape Architect: Acte 2 Paysage
- Project Management: INGEROP Conseil & Ingénierie
- Opening of phase 1: 2021
- End of mission: 2030
